A House That Promises $500
Some urban legends are so chilling because they sound like something you could stumble upon yourself. The story of NoEnd House is one of those.
It begins simply:
- Somewhere in the U.S., there’s a haunted attraction unlike any other.
- It has nine rooms, each more terrifying than the last.
- If you make it to the end, you win $500 cash.
The catch?
No one has ever reached the last room.
At least, no one who did… was ever the same again.
David’s Challenge: The Letter That Started It All
The story follows David, a skeptic who hears about NoEnd House through a friend. At first, he thinks it’s just a typical haunted attraction—jump scares, actors, maybe a few animatronics.
But the promise of $500 and the challenge of beating something “no one else could” pull him in.
David receives a cryptic letter with an address and one line:
“Nine rooms. If you reach the end, the prize is yours.”
That night, David drives to the location:
- A run-down building on the edge of town.
- No signs. No staff. Just a plain wooden door.
- A single piece of paper taped to the entrance:
“Welcome to NoEnd House. Once you enter, there is no turning back.”
David laughs it off. How bad could it be?
He pushes the door open and steps inside.
Room One: A False Sense of Security
The first room is almost disappointingly normal.
- A small foyer with a few cheap Halloween props.
- Cobwebs, dim lighting, the faint sound of spooky music.
David smirks. “This is what everyone’s afraid of?”
At the end of the room is another door with the number 2 painted on it.
He opens it without hesitation.
Room Two: The Walls Start to Breathe
Room two is darker.
- The air feels heavier, as if the room itself is pressing down on him.
- There are no props, just bare walls and the sound of his own breathing.
As he walks forward, he swears the walls move slightly, like they’re inhaling.
He tells himself it’s a trick of the light.
But when he puts his hand against the wall, it’s warm.
And it pulses.
David backs away, his heart beating faster.
The door to room 3 appears ahead of him.
He takes a deep breath and steps through.
Room Three: The Whispers Begin
The moment he enters room three, the sound hits him.
- Soft whispers, coming from everywhere and nowhere at once.
- He can’t make out the words, but they’re speaking directly to him.
The room is completely empty except for a single chair in the center.
As he moves closer, the whispers grow louder.
- One voice says his name.
- Another laughs.
- A third whispers, “You shouldn’t have come here.”
David’s skin crawls. He bolts for the door to room 4, not daring to look back.
Room Four: Reality Starts to Break
Room four is the moment David realizes this isn’t a typical haunted house.
- The room is pitch-black. He can’t see his hand in front of his face.
- The air is freezing, his breath visible in the dark.
- Something is moving in the blackness—slow, deliberate steps circling him.
He fumbles for the walls, desperate to find the next door.
Then, out of the dark, a voice right next to his ear:
“You won’t leave.”
His heart stops. He spins around, but there’s nothing there.
When his fingers finally brush against the next doorknob, he doesn’t hesitate. He slams the door behind him, panting.
Room Five: The Thing That Knows You
Room five looks… like his childhood bedroom.
The exact same furniture, same posters, same old smell of worn carpet.
On the bed is a figure sitting with its back to him.
“Hello?” David whispers.
The figure turns its head slowly—and it’s David.
Not just a copy. It’s him. Same scar on his hand, same terrified eyes.
The double smiles and says in his own voice:
“You won’t make it to the end.”
David stumbles backward, clawing for the door. His hand shakes as he pushes through to room 6.
By the time David enters room six, he realizes something horrible:
- The walls don’t look like walls anymore—they’re flesh-colored, pulsing faintly.
- The floor feels soft, as if it’s alive beneath his feet.
- The air smells like iron and rot.
And somewhere deep in the distance, he hears breathing.
Not his own.
The house… is alive.
And it’s hungry.
This is the first half (~1000 words) of the NoEnd House story, building suspense and atmosphere. The second half will cover the final rooms, the horrifying twist, and the fate of David as the house reveals its true nature.
Room Six: The House Starts to Feed
David steps further into room six and immediately regrets it.
- The walls pulse like veins, as if blood flows behind them.
- The ceiling drips with a thick, black liquid that smells faintly metallic.
- Every step he takes feels like walking across a living thing’s back.
The whispers from the previous rooms are gone. Now there’s only a low, rhythmic sound.
It takes David a moment to realize it’s a heartbeat.
And it’s not his.
As he moves forward, the walls seem to close in. His chest tightens, and for a moment, he swears he hears a voice deep inside the walls:
“You are part of me now.”
The door to room seven appears, but it’s different from the others—no number, just a slit of darkness.
He doesn’t want to go through. But behind him, the floor begins to move.
Something beneath the soft, fleshy surface is crawling toward him.
David has no choice. He plunges through the opening.
Room Seven: The House Shows Him Himself
David finds himself in a corridor lined with mirrors.
But these aren’t normal reflections.
- In one mirror, he sees himself screaming silently, his mouth stretched too wide.
- In another, he sees himself as a rotting corpse, eyes hollow and black.
- One reflection reaches out of the mirror and touches the glass from the inside.
“Stop,” David whispers, but his voice echoes back in a dozen warped tones.
Then, one of the reflections speaks on its own:
“You can’t leave. There’s no end. There’s only you.”
The mirrors begin to crack, but not from his side—from the inside.
Something is trying to break out.
He runs, heart hammering, and slams through the next door.
Room Eight: The Void
The moment David enters room eight, everything changes.
- There are no walls. No floor. No ceiling.
- He’s standing in a vast, empty void that stretches into infinity.
- There’s no sound except his own breath.
He takes a step forward, and the “ground” ripples like water.
Then a voice booms all around him:
“You are mine.”
Suddenly, shapes emerge from the darkness—twisted figures, all of them with his face. Some are screaming. Some are crying. Some are laughing with jagged teeth.
They surround him, whispering:
“Room Nine.”
“The end that never ends.”
“Come home.”
A door appears in the void. It’s small, plain, and unmarked.
David hesitates, but the figures move closer, and he knows he has no choice.
He steps through.
Room Nine: The End That Isn’t
David opens his eyes and freezes.
He’s standing in his own living room.
His TV is on, playing static. His couch is there, his coffee mug sitting on the table.
For a moment, relief floods through him. He laughs shakily. “It was just a haunted house. Just a trick.”
Then he sees it.
- The walls of his living room pulse faintly.
- His TV screen flickers—and for a split second, he sees his own face screaming inside the static.
- Behind him, a door appears where his kitchen should be. A door with the number 10 painted in red.
David backs away, whispering: “No… it’s over. I made it to the end.”
The house whispers back, in a thousand voices:
“There is no end.”
The last thing he hears before everything goes black is the sound of the door opening behind him.
The story of NoEnd House spread like wildfire across forums, creepypasta sites, and YouTube narrations. But what makes it stick is the possibility.
- Some claim to have received letters or emails with strange addresses after reading the story.
- A few even swear they visited a house that felt “wrong,” only to run before going inside.
- One urban explorer uploaded footage of an abandoned building that perfectly matched the description—but the video cuts out at the second room.
Was NoEnd House just a story? Or is it out there, waiting for its next visitor?
Psychological Horror: Why It Works
NoEnd House taps into several primal fears:
- Fear of the unknown: Each room escalates the terror without explanation.
- Loss of self: The house uses you against yourself, making you question reality.
- The trap with no escape: The idea that you’re stuck in something you can’t comprehend or fight.
It’s not just a haunted house story. It’s a story about being consumed.
They say NoEnd House appears in different places, never staying long.
If you see a plain wooden door with a sign promising $500, would you go in?
You might make it through one room. Maybe two.
But if you hear a heartbeat in the walls, turn around.
Because once the house knows you…
